Rabbi Eli Schlanger leaned back in his chair, sighed and grinned like a kid. “What are you thinking?” Nikki Goldstein asked him. “I am completely happy,” Schlanger said. “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing exactly what I am meant to be doing. I am completely on my path.” It was a summer morning, and light rain was falling outside Goldstein’s home. Schlanger was running late for their Zoom call, but they soon fell into the rhythm of their usual winding, philosophical conversations.
Chabad Portugal celebrates special moment with a Brith Mila
The Portuguese Jewish News,Wednesday, July 1, 2026
On June 1, the Chabad community in Portugal experienced a moment of great joy with the celebration of the bris of the newborn son of Rabbi Menachem and Chana Wagner, who lead Chabad of the Algarve. The date, 16 Sivan, adds an even deeper layer of significance to the occasion, as it coincides with the day the Lubavitcher Rebbe and the Rebbetzin were in Portugal in 1941. During that historic visit, the Rebbe wrote a profound teaching on the Torah, interpreting the Talmudic reference to “lost fish” as a metaphor for the loss of awareness of God’s presence in the world.

Chabad of Downtown Thrives in the Heart of the City
Baltimore Jewish Times,Tuesday, June 30, 2026
Chabad of Downtown was founded in 2008 as a hub for Jewish life in Baltimore. While it offers community, worship and cultural events, in some ways, it isn’t quite the same as a typical synagogue, said longtime member Bruce Coopersmith. “I don’t perceive this as an organization where you join. There’s no application form, there’s no interview. I had bumped into Rabbi Levi Druk a number of times and he introduced himself, and I just occasionally went over there to participate in some events,” Coopersmith said. “It wasn’t a matter of joining, just of becoming more involved.”

As America celebrates 250 years of independence, the Jewish community joins millions of Americans in offering heartfelt gratitude for the blessings this remarkable nation has bestowed. For nearly 2,000 years, Jews wandered from country to country. Too often, they were welcomed one day and expelled the next. They endured discrimination, persecution and violence simply because they were Jewish. Throughout much of history, Jews prayed not only for peace, but for a place where they could live openly, according to their faith.
